NECROPOLIS

Necropolis is a film about a funerary ‘city’, by the sea, which reverberates in clear abysses of atmospheric light, aroused by the chthonic earth. Herbs, rocks, rockery, animals, flowers are encoded by stele, rectangular, ellipsoidal, trapezoidal, anthropomorphic slabs, carved into the limestone, shaped like a uterus. The body of the deceased is buried huddled, as if inside a mother’s womb. At the end you can glimpse the millenary sacred street of the Dauni which descends towards the ‘godly’ sea. Hence the ‘reflections’, the mirrors, the perceptive ‘doors’ that open and close: the vertigo of a ‘house of the dead’ awakened to the shining … the votive sublimations, the sunset. Space as a funnel of an ‘over-here’.
